My interest in finance did not start at university. It started at 13, when I stumbled across a YouTube video about index funds, and the rabbit hole never really ended. While my peers in high school were focusing on โthe analysis of Macbethโ, I often found myself paper trading and completing online courses on private equity, financial markets, and behavioural finance.
Now in my third year at the University of Queensland studying Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours), that curiosity has only grown. As an Analyst at SV Partners, working across insolvency and restructuring engagements has exposed me to businesses under real pressure, sharpening my analytical ability, commercial judgement and ability to communicate clearly when decisions carry real consequences.
That curiosity flowed naturally into case competitions, where building financial models until 3am became routine. From constructing fully integrated models to structuring acquisition theses, each competition sharpened my skills. Alongside this, my experience as Vice President at the UQ Business Association has reinforced my ability to work collaboratively, manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Most recently, sitting in traffic, I had a thought I haven't been able to shake: traffic is just an analogy for the stock market. The lane you pick, when you merge, how much risk you're willing to take. Everyone has the same destination. What separates the best drivers is their ability to read the road first.
